Central Austin - Location
Central Austin begins on the north shore of Lady Bird Lake (aka Town Lake, aka the Colorado River). It's bordered on the West by 360, on the North by 2222 and on the East by IH35. This area includes Downtown Austin and the University of Texas and is home to many medical facilities as well as the Central Market on Lamar. The soil is softer here than it is to the West, allowing Pecan trees to grow in abundance. Seriously. I've heard people talk about harvesting their front yards and fighting off the squirrels for the spoils.
Central Austin - Lifestyle
It's difficult to imagine traveling one of Central Austin's tree-lined streets without running into a biker, runner, walker, dog-walker, stroller-pusher, skateboarder, or some other form of self-propelled locomotion. Maybe it's because the area is littered with parks and trails. Maybe it's because the homes are so charming people love to immerse themselves in the historical feel of the neighborhoods. Maybe it's because there are so many eating, talking, reading, drinking, learning venues just a few blocks from home. Whatever the reason, it's a very vibrant area - one that few people want to leave.
Downtown Austin is also home to many newer low, mid and highrise condominiums. Development of these buildings began in the early 2000's and downtown living has become very popular. For more information visit my other website www.CondosAustinStyle.com.
