South Austin - Location
South Austin begins on the South side of Lady Bird Lake, extends south to Slaughter Lane and is bounded on the east and west by I35 and Mopac. It's home to the famous Zilker Park and Barton Springs - which maintains a low 60 degree temperature year round. The South shore of Lady Bird lake also offers hiking/walking/biking trails, is home to music festivals like ACL (Austin City Limits Music Festival) and hosts the annual fireworks (at least when there's not a drought!).
South Austin - Lifestyle
The northern parts of South Austin are home to trendy neighborhoods such as "SoCo" (for South Congress) "SoLa" (for South Lamar) and even "SoFi" (for South First). I don't know where this trend will stop, or if it ever will. South Austin IS different from North Austin. Don't let anyone tell you it's not. It's a lot more eclectic, vegan friendly and definitely "Keeps Austin Weird".
The Southern parts of South Austin are much more suburban and what you'd expect to find in a typical neighborhood environment.
